I LOVE Trader Joe’s!
Kevin and I used to do pretty much all of our grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s before we had kids. I love, love, love TJ’s, but it’s pretty far from our house and it’s not as practical for us to spend half our Sunday grocery shopping. Our old routine was to go for a long bike ride on Sunday morning, clean up, and then head into Louisville and spend an hour or so wandering around our favorite grocery store. We would always buy peanut or almond butter and plantain chips and would usually polish off a bag of chips dipped in peanut butter on our drive home. It was a pretty tasty weekly tradition.
Getting back on track here, we rarely drive all the way to TJ’s to get groceries any longer, but I’ve been seeing their new seasoning blends allllll over social media. I mentioned to my mom that I wanted to try the Chili Lime and Everything But the Bagel Seasoning and she graciously offered to pick them up for me. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make first, but I was so excited to finally have my hands on them! I’ve used the Chili Lime in tuna salad a few times and Kevin used it to spice up some Mexican burgers last week, but I had yet to try the bagel seasoning. I had heard people like to use it on eggs, but I haven’t tried it just yet. That’ll probably be next on my list.
Trader Joe’s Everything but the Bagel Seasoning is perfect with hummus!
I was testing recipes for my next book, 4 Weeks to Wellness, last week and I finally found the perfect use for the Everything but the Bagel seasoning! I was working on my hummus recipe and was contemplating which spices to add when I decide to give it a try! This sesame seasoning blend gave the hummus so much flavor–it was perfect! You could top a store bought hummus with the seasoning or make my super simple homemade hummus recipe and mix it right in (recipe below). This recipe will be in the “Dressings, Dips, and Sauces” chapter of my new book.
A little more about my new book…
I am really, really, really, excited about this book because it is going to pretty much be an all-in-one guide to real food. The first half of the book will teach you what real food is and how to shop for and cook it. There will be lots of helpful tips for making real food work for your budget, schedule (helllo, meal prep), and lifestyle (for athletes, weight loss, etc).
The second half of the book will be packed full of healthy recipes for any time of day or night. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, soups, salads, and snacks–many of which make great leftovers or can be frozen for later. I’ll also have a handy meal planning calendar with a few sample meal plans to take all the guesswork out for you.
Basically, if you’ve been wanting to clean up your diet, but feel intimidated or confused by how to even get more real food in your life, this book is for you! It will challenge you to eat only whole foods for four weeks and then take what you learned and incorporate it into your forever diet. And I’ll be there with you along the way-I plan on running challenge groups so we can take this on together as a community and make it fun!
